History
Royal Jewellers since 1914
A humble beginning...
K.M. Oli Mohamed set foot in
Singapore after embarking on a journey from India in 1914.
There, he founded a small shop on High Street selling
costume jewellery called K.M. Oli Mohamed Jewellery
Shop.
In the early 1920's...
A progressive person he was, K.M. Oli Mohamed dreamed
to be a leading retailer for fine quality jewellery. In
a horizon of less than a decade, he began offering his
own creation of genuine gold and gem-set jewellery, crafted
by the Ceylonese goldsmith of high repute.
A new height...
Business was brisk with the majority of his clients being
the British and expatriates. As the European-inspired
modernism in art was sweeping throughout the world, the
clients' needs for Art Deco jewellery designs surfaced,
and K.M. Oli Mohamed began importing jewellery. Initially,
his main source came from England. Soon, jewellery from
other leading European manufacturing nations - France,
Italy and Germany - arrived in his showroom.
A Royal Jeweller...
His clientele too began to take on a global flavour, attracting
Hollywood stars, the rich and famous and even royalty.
The reputation and his illustrated skills as an exceptional
jeweller subsequently earned him the conferment of the
title "Royal Jeweller" by the late Sultan of
Terengganu and Prince Purachatra of Siam.
Decisive moment...
Consequently, he saw more and more Malaysians were travelling
across the Causeway in search of his reputation. Mindful
of his Malaysian following, several exhibitions were launched
as an annual event. The response was phenomenal. The great
support put a Malaysian showroom into the works.
A flourishing period...
Ampang was the chosen location to establish the first
K.M. Oli Mohamed showroom. In the following years, Penang
and Bangsar saw the establishment of his second and third
showroom to the delights of his loyal clients, satisfying
his clients' needs in every way he could.
Change of guard...
Today, it's business as usual at his showrooms as it has
been since 1914. Only these days, his children run the
family business. Jewellery are still designed with the
equal quality aspect in mind, offering the discerning
clients who are eager to have their expectations raised.
